The Bucketlist

If you could drop everything right now, not having to worry about any obligations, where would you go? What would you do? What would you want to see? It’s something I find I’m asking myself on a more frequent basis these days. Seeing the Angkor Wat Temples in Cambodia was #1 on my list; I checked that off. Visiting Thailand and all its wonders was #2, I checked that off. #3? I haven’t decided yet. I thought I had a set list all planned out but now that I’ve been traveling more and more and seeing more amazing things the list is starting to change. It’s not necessarily the monuments and wonders that make a place great, but the people and the cultures that reside there. That’s why I like to do so much research on places before I travel there to try and get the most local, intimate experience possible.

Anyways, I’m getting side-tracked, if I had to make a bucketlist right now I would want to go to:

1. Cusco, Peru

Cusco, Peru is home to Machu Picchu, a fortified Inca town high in the Andes Mountains. Machu Picchu is known as “The Last Incan City” because it went unknown to the Spanish during the colonial period. It was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983, and has since been named one of the new 7 wonders of the world. I have to explore this!

2. Petra, Jordan

Petra is an ancient city carved from the red sandstone cliffs in modern day Jordan. It is believed to have been an emerging culture as early as 7000BC. Like Machu Picchu, Petra is named a UNESCO World Heritage Site and great measures are being taken to preserve this incredible historic landmark.

3. Hiroshima, Japan

I want to go to Japan in general really. Hiroshima just has a mystique to me to that I love. From the pictures I have seen, Hiroshima is like a dream. It’s beauty is said to be indescribable.

4. Greece

Again, I couldn’t just pick one location in Greece, there are too many amazing things to see and do. Of course, I would have to start in Athens, and then I would go to Meteora, Mykonos, Santorini, and Crete. Obviously there are many other islands but these are the major ones that I’d need to see if I were to got there today. Greece just has so much history and its supposed to be absolutely beautiful.

5. Morocco

Morocco seems like a place that I would visit and never leave. Tangier was once a famous location for writers, artists, vagabonds, and druggies alike. It’s got a mysterious danger about it that I love. I want to walk the streets of Tangier and feel the mystery that lurks around every corner. The same goes for Marrakech. Marrakech is a major shopping market that features all different kinds of wares ranging from live animals to spices, and flowers to cooking utensils. It seems like it hasn’t changed since its construction hundreds of years ago.

Definitely! I try and do two trips a year, if I can afford it. One in the winter and one in the summer. My list is so much longer but it was difficult to narrow it down to a top five, so I stopped there. Thanks for the comment! :]

      Hey Lindsay!

Cape Town would be amazing. It seems spectacular from the pictures that I have seen. Honestly, my top five changes so often as I learn more about various other locations. I just want to go everywhere haha!
