Cambodia: The Arrival

Leaving Phuket we had an hour layover in Bangkok before continuing onto Siem Reap, Cambodia. The flight from Phuket to Bangkok was about 50 minutes and the flight from Bangkok to Siem Reap was only 35 minutes. Of course, flying Bangkok Airways, they fed us on both flights. We didn’t even have time to eat and finish filling out the customs paperwork for Cambodia before we landed in Siem Reap; by far the shortest flight of my life. At this time it was around 9:00pm and completely dark out. The first thing I noticed was the lack of city and street lights. Once off the plane, we were guided into customs, which was absolutely packed with tourists and then onto baggage claim where there were only two belts for luggage. We finally got our bags, exchanged some currency (dollars to riel), and got a cab to our hotel. Luckily, our cab driver was extremely knowledgable and spoke excellent english so communicating was a piece of cake. Our cab driver offered to show us the Angkor Wat temples so we got his email for a later day.

We arrived at out hotel, Passaggio Boutique Hotel*, around 10pm so getting a good view of our surroundings wasn’t going to happen until the next morning, but from what we could see, Cambodia was going to be another adventure entirely.
